Driven by a set of elaborate and innovative computer-generated special effects, Terminator 2: Judgment Day is an excellent sequel to the original sci-fi thriller. While Arnold Schwarzenegger reprises his role as the robotic Terminator, the twist in T-2 is that he is not programmed to kill John Connor (Edward Furlong)--the boy who will later lead the post-nuclear holocaust resistance--he is programmed to protect Connor from the T-1000 (Robert Patrick), a lethal, shape-shifting robot. Although the film's story isn't quite as tight or inventive as the original Terminator, director James Cameron has crafted an intense, exciting rollercoaster ride, filled with jaw-dropping special effects, breakneck action and a surprisingly effective emotional undercurrent. Terminator 2: Judgment Day on video is available in both its original theatrical running length, as well as an expanded edition that contains some extra scenes. The laserdisc edition includes a short film of The Making of T-2.
