Actress Annette Bening paid for her college education at Mesa College and San Francisco University by working as a cook on a charter boat. She made her stage debut in 1986's Coastal Disturbances and her movie bow in 1988's The Great Outdoors. Critics lavished praise on Annette for her performance as a strung-out con artist in The Grifters (1990). Married to actor/director Warren Beatty, Annette co-starred with Beatty in the successful Bugsy (1991) and the anything-but-successful Love Affair (1993). Slated to appear as the Catwoman in Batman Returns, Annette Bening was obliged to forego the role when she became pregnant with Beatty's child.
